death

by Tammy

I lost my darling girl.

31 days ago, I kissed her forehead for the very last time. Her short hair touched my lips. She was warm and then I slowly felt her hands turn cold and her fingernails turn a shade of purple. I didn’t know that it would hurt this much. My heart beats for hers. I know that I will forever search for her. I can’t stop. I look for her in the trees, in the clouds and the prayer of a spirit that could linger in the corner. I know that I will never be the same. Something that is attached to me is gone before me into another space and I feel that pull. But what is left is broken. It is like a vessel that is cracked open and continues to leak. Never dry. Bleeding. I’ll continue to search for you, my love. Do not go far away. Wait for me.

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
                                  i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)
